Thinking. A leadership concept

AP and I came up with this nifty slogan the other day.

"If you can't read the room, you shouldn't lead the room."

In other words, if you can't 'get' the mood and the reactions of people in the group or organisation or meeting that you're in, it's worth taking stock of whether you're really being an effective leader or teacher in that instance.

Presumably, most leaders believe they can read the room. But it is still worth checking with people who'll be genuinely honest.

Do you think it's important to be able to 'read the room'?
