Thinking. A small rant.

Two things that annoy me:

One. People talking about 'society today' in comparison with the 'good old days' of whenever in years past.

It seems so defeatist to constantly look at the challenges we face today, as though things are so much harder, so much tougher, and so much more complicated than they have ever been.

Things are different. That's all there is to it.

Wouldn't it be more interesting to see today's challenges as opportunities? By the way, the Bible in Ecclesiastes agrees with me. Read the second half - there's a verse in there somewhere which says 'Why constantly ask why it was so much better in the old days? It's not a sensible question.'

Two. People bagging out facebook and twitter and online social networking tools as distractions/evil/waste of time/nothing good about them.

I'll say it loudly. I like facebook. It keeps me in touch with old friends and new friends and provides a whole other way to get to know people and keep in touch with issues.

If people don't want to use it, that's fine. But it's a bit rough to roundly criticise it as being good for nothing.

There's no biblical verse that refers to internet social networking tools, but there is a principle of 'whatever you do, do it for the Lord'. So I'll take that with me when I log on.

By the way, I'm not responding to anything specific that's happened in my life recently. It's just a small rant I've been saving up for some time, and tonight seemed as good a time as any to share it.
