Autism. Practicing.
I had this conversation with Bright Eyes yesterday as he walked around the kitchen collecting the items he needed to get himself a 'milkshake'.
Him: "I can get my own lunch with practicing."
Me: "Yes, I know. You know, last year, you didn't think you could do it, but now you can."
Him: "Now I'm smart and clever."
Me: "You've always been smart. It's just that last year you were a bit unsure, that's all."
Him: "Yes, and now I'm smart."
What a tremendous growth in confidence! The cry of his life up until this point has been, "Help! I can't do it!" and now not only does he think he's smart and clever, but he can recognise that practice will help him become competent.
Oh, it's a good week this week.
